Meet George
I’m George Pickle, and I’m running for Mayor because I believe our city deserves experienced, steady leadership that understands how government works. Committed to faith, family, and conservative principles, my mission is to protect and preserve the values, resources, and integrity of Helena, Alabama.
I am an advocate for planned development (not overdevelopment) to safeguard and preserve our most important resources and the future of our city. I support responsible fiscal stewardship of city, county, and federal resources while proudly backing our first responders, police department, fire department, and schools. I stand firmly against overspending, zero transparency, and believe elected public servants are still servants of the people who elected them to serve.
With more than 30 years of hands-on municipal experience, I’ve dedicated my career to serving our community, solving problems, and building a city we can all be proud of. With faith as my foundation and service as my calling, I am dedicated to defending the well-being and traditions of Helena and its citizens.
From public works to policy planning, budgeting to community development, I’ve been involved in every aspect of city operations. I know what it takes to get things done - because I’ve done it.
I’m not running to learn the job; I’m running because I already know how to do it, and I’m ready to lead with integrity, accountability, and a vision for the future.
This election isn’t about promises, it’s about proven results. Together, let’s build on our progress and shape a stronger, smarter, and more connected city.

THE BEST WAY TO PREDICT THE FUTURE IS TO CREATE IT
Vision & Priorities
Communications Platform
Creating a comprehensive communications platform for a growing city involves building a centralized, scalable, and accessible system that connects city leadership, departments, and residents effectively. After meeting with several locals on best practices, here's an idea of how I envision the framework...
Balanced Budgets
A balanced budget is not just about numbers - it's about responsible leadership, protecting taxpayer dollars, and creating a foundation for future growth. Through careful planning, collaboration, and transparency, I am committed to working with all employees and departments to deliver a fiscally sound government for Helena.
Workforce Development
Workforce training is essential for the future growth and sustainability of any municipality. In short, it's not a cost, it's a strategic investment in a City's ability to grow, thrive, and met future challenges effectively. Here’s why it’s so important...
Responsible Growth
Or, growing with purpose while bringing long-term value to our local economy. With people in mind, their quality of life, and in a way that balances progress with sustainability. It's growing smart - not just growing fast...
Aggressive Annexation
Helena is surrounded by other municipalities and without strategic planning and updated mapping, the City faces limited growth opportunities. To expand Helena's land base will not only increase the tax base, but will help the City control the kind of developments officials and residents have planned for.
Affordable and Over 55 Housing
Helena is not Mountain Brook. Helena is Helena - where essential workers, teachers, police officers, nurses, firefighters, and young families deserve the dream of homeownership where they live and work. And the same for empty-nesters and those planning on retirement....
